Marjorie and Paul McKelvey write...
From Alliston, Ontario...
Late in June 2004 our travel company, McKelvey's Travel & Cruises of Alliston decided to do something to help the Aids Orphans in Africa. We had heard Stephen Lewis speak at the Rotary Convention in Belleville (in the fall of 2003), we had received copies of "Who will cuddle them?" from our six year old grandson and we had numerous discussions with Rotary friends about 'doing something'.
So we booked space with Holland America for a New Year's Cruise of the Caribbean to depart on December 28th and mailed letters to our clients who have travelled with us previously, as part of a group. We asked them to consider accompanying us on this particular cruise, and said we'd like to send our portion of the profit to the Stephen Lewis Foundation. Within a month we had sold the space. We didn't have to say what we wanted to do with the profits, but we hoped it might encourage others in business to do something similar. One day's profits, one department's profits etc. is a small thing, but collectively it mounts up.
Thanks for your help and best wishes to you and the Stephen Lewis Foundation for the year ahead.
Sincerely,
Marjorie & Paul McKelvey
